Newborn & Baby Portrait Studio in Carnoustie.
Props, the wonderful world of props!
I often get asked if I supply the props and should you bring anything along…
The answer is yes and yes!
I have lots of props! Things such as baskets, boxes, chairs, headbands, hats, outfits and little cuddly toys. I have them in varying colours and styles so lots of options. I tend to just go with the flow and use what I feel suits baby. When I say suits baby, I do mean aesthetically to a point but I also mean in comfort etc too. For example some babies don’t really like being posed on their tummy, so in this case I would gravitate towards props where baby can be posed on their back or side.
I also adore when parents bring along bits and bobs to include in the session. This can be as simple as a their first teddy or a blanket that granny has knitted. Or we can go a bit more elaborate… in the past i’ve had snowboards, giant teddies, a milk urn, kettlebells, guitars…. the list goes on!! I love these types of shots with something a little different from the norm, it makes the images super personal.
Below are some lovely shots from a recent newborn photoshoot in my Carnoustie Studio with little man, Robin! Mum and Dad brought along a couple of his wee teddies, so we incorporated them into the session alongside some of my props that work well such as the wee bear hat!
Next we have a wonderful session with little Elsie who is six months now! In her newborn session, which was held in her own home, I discovered Mum and Dad were huge Harry Potter fans like myself. So we ran with it! We incorporated the books, wands, quidditch balls and even a hand made golden snitch box which contained mums engagement ring when Daddy proposed! How lovely is that!!
So fast forward to her 6 month session (part of her ‘Watch me Grow‘ journey!) in the studio! I of course had to bring some of our Harry Potter things from home to include alongside the items we used in the newborn session. This was such a fun session and I loved creating these images!
So to sum up! You don’t have to bring anything along, however it can really help create a wonderfully personal and stunning image if you do! It doesn’t have to be anything special or elaborate. In one session the mum just happened to be wearing a beautifully patterned scarf on the day and we decided to include it! It turned out to be one of the favourite images from the photoshoot!
Also if you have any ideas, no matter how daft you may think they are, just let me know! Some of my craziest ideas turn out to be the best!!
