Specialist Newborn & Baby Photography Studio in Carnoustie, Scotland.
Ive had a few studios over the years but they haven’t lasted long purely because they just haven’t been ‘right’. One was too big, another too small etc etc… like goldilocks Ive found this one is ‘just right‘. It is a lovely little end terraced cottage on the quieter end of the main street through Carnoustie. I have a good sized studio room and another room that is an ideal office/viewing room. We got the keys on the 1st of October and my amazing husband worked night and day to get it ready, he really worked hard, you should have seen it at first! It was in all honesty, a mess, in fact it took me about 2 months of umming and ahhhing over wether it would be too much work to take on, it was that bad. In the end we decided to go for it as ultimately if we had to rip it all out and start again it mean we were beginning with a blank canvas to create the perfect space.
I wanted a functional space so I have a built-in rustic wood backdrop set, one wall painted grey for my family portraits, a corner with a pole for clipping my backdrop blankets onto etc and plenty of storage. Ideally during a newborn session you want as little disruption as possible so I try to set up different points around the studio that I can just move to for the next batch of shots without having to move or change things. This works so well and it means that I can get more shots in less time which is better for mum & dad…. and also my dodgy back!!
When creating the studio I wanted something that reflected my personality…. For that I needed my awesome friends at D-SIXX Apparel. For those not in the know, D-Sixx Apparel are a local clothing brand who specialise in tattoo inspired, alternative clothing for kids and adults alike….. think peppa pig getting captured by an eagle, or a tatted up Gruffalo and you get the picture! Their designs are amazing as is their service! Go give them a ‘like’ on facebook or follow their insta! Anyway so they created this amazing doodle wall for me in the studio!! Isn’t it the best?!?! I adore it! Particular fave parts are the Alkaline Trio references, Rockabilly Rex (a d-sixx tshirt design, buy it here!), the nod to Banksy with the loan red balloon……I could go on, I LOVE it all!!!.
In fact I love the wall so much that I got them to create me a new logo for the studio which matches the wall! That will be making its debut on the studio sign very soon!! So the studio has its very own logo which incorporates Newborns by Nicola and also my bigger kids brand HD Photographic. This meant both of those needed a wee rebrand to tie everything in so both logos have been simplified a bit and are now Black and White to keep everything all lovely and and the same. You can see the new Newborns by Nicola logo at the top of the page! I hope you like it!
Anyways, I am loving the studio! It still needs a couple of wee bits finished off and a few tweaks but we will get there! I have plans for an amazing grafitti wall so I can recreate my HD photographic graffiti portraits in studio when it is a rubbish day for a location session. I also plan on doing some work in the garden so that we can do shots out there too! I expect to be fully finished everything in the next month or two!
Newborns by Nicola Studio is open for business!!! 🙂
Can’t wait to see you all!
